lk2g-071 Illusion Knitting

In this episode of our web video series we demonstrate Illusion Knitting.  Illusion Knitting also know as shadow knitting is a color knitting technique that uses textured stitches to create the illusion of a hidden image that can only be seen at a an angle.

Directions for Dishcloth demonstrated:

Cast on 40 stitches in the lighter color then pick up the darker color.

Row 1: Knit one row with the darker color.
Row 2: Using the darker color Knit 10, Purl 10 and repeat until the end .
Row 3: Pick up the lighter color again and Knit the right side row.
Row 4: Using lighter color Purl 10, Knit 10 and repeat until the end.
Repeat these 4 rows for 8 inches
When your cloth is around 8 inches finish off by ending with 2 rows of the lighter color. Then bind off with the darker color.

    Hi CAT!
I love this episode! You always inspire me to try new things.

    Cheers!

You know what I heart about your shows? The bloopers, and not just ’cause they’re bloopers. I heart them because it seems that you two have such a good time making the show. There’s such good energy in what you do. One of my fave bloopers is the one where you’re both punchdrunk tired and eric says something like, “Don’t ever fim at 4 in the morning.” I really like the illusion knitting and am gonna try out the dishcloth project as I was gifted with skeins of dishcloth cotton. Do you know if there’s any terrycloth yarn out there? I thought that would be some good yarn to make dishcloths out of. And that Rowan kid silk haze looks yummers. I’m gonna skip on over to Yarn Market and check out the tempting colors CAT mentioned. CAT: good luck with your UFO. HUGS. ~Erica from Florida.

    Cat,
Great episode. I don’t know if I’m ready for illusion knitting, but I love the concept.
What I found so funny, was your description of kidsilk haze, as it is one of my favorite yarns too! Can’t get enough, ever….
