Let’s Knit2gether is a video podcast. That means you can subscribe to the show and download the video files automatically to your computer when new shows are released. Your computer uses “podcast catcher” software like iTunes to do this. Basically iTunes continually checks to see if there is a new episode, and if there is, it starts downloading it right away.
The subscription links to the right each go to their own page of computer code that iTunes understands. What you need to do is tell iTunes where that page is and the rest is automatic.
So here’s the step by step process to subscribe:
Download and install podcast catcher software. We recommend iTunes or Juice. They both work on both Mac and PC but if you’re on a Mac, chances are you have iTunes already and you can skip this step. The rest of these instructions apply to iTunes but the process is almost exactly the same in Juice.
Decide which type of video file you want. There are two separate feeds. They each have the same shows. The only thing that’s different between them is the video format. You only need to subscribe to one feed to see all the shows. If you subscribe to both then you will get duplicate shows.
Go to the column to the right and click on the link to the feed you want. It will take you to the page with the RSS code. Don’t worry about all the confusing text on the page. That’s just the computer code that iTunes understands. Go to the top of your browser and highlight the entire URL in the address field, then go up to the browser menu and select edit / copy.
Open iTunes. Go to the iTunes menu and select Advanced / Subscribe to Podcast. A little window will open. Click inside the text box and paste the address. (Edit menu / paste) Click OK.
You are now subscribed. Go over to the left in iTunes and click on Podcasts. You should see LetsKnit2gether in the window on the right.
Download shows. Click the update button in the top right of iTunes. This will download the latest show and put it in a directory in your iTunes folder. You can also download all the past shows. Click the little triangle next to LetsKnit2gether. This will drop down the show list. Click on “get” for all the past shows that you want and iTunes will download them all for you.
Well, that all there is too it. Keep iTunes running in the background and when a new show becomes available iTunes will download it right away!
